B1 cars: safe, affordable, practical choice for teens and families
Although B1 category cars have long been popular in Europe (especially in France and Italy), in Lithuania they are still a novelty. As a result, many myths surround them. It’s time to debunk them.
Myth 1: “Too slow – kids won’t get anywhere”
Reality: 45 km/h is enough for daily city routes. In many places, traffic regulations limit speed to 30 or 50 km/h, so a B1 car fits these limits.
Most young drivers travel to school, extracurricular activities, or friends – all within city boundaries. The trip may take a bit longer, but it’s safer.
Myth 2: “They’re very expensive”
Reality: prices range from €11,000 to €25,000 for a new model. However, the long-term perspective matters:
Compared to a scooter or motorcycle, a B1 car costs more, but provides significantly greater safety.
Myth 3: “Unsafe”
Reality: they’re safer than scooters. B1 cars have seatbelts, a closed cabin, four wheels, stability, and limited speed. In many European countries, they’re considered a safer alternative for teenagers than bicycles or scooters.
Myth 4: “They’ll get boring quickly”
Reality: on the contrary – many young people who start driving a B1 car use it for two or three years, until they reach adulthood. In addition, within the family, it often becomes useful for short everyday trips by parents as well.
